List of Formed Partnerships

2023

Table Community Foundation (TCF). The City of Stockton Community Services Department partnered with the Table Community Foundation to offer the Outdoor Equity Grant. The initial staff with the City and TCF are no longer with each organization which made the 1st year of the grant programming difficult and because of this we we're able to schedule most of the proposed trips. In order to maximize the amount of grant funds being used in year 2. We've calendared out the entire 2024 year to better plan for the activities.

Lessons

2023

The biggest challenge we experienced that the staff that applied for the Outdoor Equity Grant are no longer with the organization. All parties involved in the grant had to quickly educate themselves on the grant which delayed the planning because we weren't able to schedule the day/camping trips.

Other Program Goals

Service Learning/Career Pathway/Leadership Opportunities

44 opportunities will be available including engaging local youth and residents to strategically design an outreach effort that will be deployed throughout the community to promote the launch of the outdoor programming. The Public Information Officer for the City will work with partners and participants to provide a professional public outreach perspective that participants can use for employment resumes or college admissions; Engaging residents of the community to be Coaches in the Legacy Sports program by providing a stipend and work with professional athletes to draw experience from and who are willing to develop coaches and youth program participants; A youth internship for a language translator to interpret media and marketing materials, field and follow-up on program inquiries received from the community. The experience gained from the internship can be used for employment resumes and college admission; And a group of civic-minded youth and parents will be identified to assist in peer mentorship and parental chaperone program. Participants will assist with nature trip planning and other programming implementation which can be used for employment resumes and college admission.

Mentoring

The City of Stockton aims to provide youth mentorship opportunities with the assistance of local organizations including Table Community Foundation, the City’s Recreation Department, and Public Works. The city will select three cohorts of 20 youth per year who are interested in attending youth leadership training by the Table Community Foundation. Upon completion of the training, participants will receive a certificate of completion. Stockton youth who demonstrate interest and commitment to outdoor topics and activities will also be mentored by a city-provided Outdoor Recreation Specialist. Youth who successfully complete the City’s Outdoor Equity Program will be encouraged to return the subsequent years, after the grant performance period, as youth leaders who will assist in subsequent years of program development planning and organization, as well as peer-mentoring first-year participants.

Annual Reports Start in December 2023!

Grantee will report the number of children served, partnership accomplishments and lessons learned, how educational goals were achieved, and unforeseen challenges and recommended solutions, with the goal of inspiring and building capacity for future outdoor program providers throughout California.
